Letter B Storytime

This week is the letter B for bears.  Below are the books I read (for all three storytimes-preschool, two's, lapsit), fingerplays and craft we made.

Book: A Bear, a Bee and a Honey Tree

Fingerplay:
If you’re a panda bear and you know it, clap your paws.
If you’re a panda bear and you know it, clap your paws.
If you’re a panda bear and you know it,
And your face will surely show it,
If you’re a panda bear and you know it, clap your paws.
Continue:
If you’re a polar bear and you know it, stomp your feet
If you’re a grizzly bear and you know it, growl real loud

Book:   A Bear Sat on My Porch Today

Bears Storytime

Preschool Storytime:

Opening: If You Want to Hear a Story

Book: A Bear Sat on my Porch Today

Fingerplay/Flannel: Five Little Bears Jumping on the Bed

Book: Share, Big Bear, Share!

Action: Animal Cards

Fingerplay: Tune: The Bear Went Over the Mountain

My thumbs are starting to wiggle (repeat 3x)

And so are my hands!

Other verses: Hands….arms, Arms….feet, Feet…body

Book: A Good Day for a Hat

*For this book, I like to make it more interactive. So, all throughout the book different things keep happening causing Mr. bear to change his hat. For instance, there are rabbits jumping all around so he puts on a magician's hat. I have little paper cutouts of rabbits and after I read that page I have the paper rabbits "rain" down up on the kids. I do this all throughout this book and the kids adore this!

Scarf Dancing:

Five little bears, sleeping on the floor.

One ran away and now there are four!

(Ball up scarf and throw when you say ran each time.)

Four little bears,, cute as can be.

One ran away and now there are three!

Three little bears, wondering what to do.

One ran away and now there are two!

Two little bears, laying in the sun.

One ran away and now there is one!

One little bear cat got up to stretch and yawn.

I looked away and now he’s gone! (Put scarf behind your back.)

Closing Song: We Wave Goodbye Like This

L is for Leaves Falling All Around

Opening: If You Want to Hear a Story

Book: Bear Feels Scared

Fingerplay: Big Bear
Big bear, big bear, turn around.
Big bear, big bear, touch the ground.
Big bear, big bear,  clap your hands and touch your knees.
Big bear, big bear, turn around and stomp your feet.
Big bear, big bear, roar real LOUD!
Big bear, big bear, jump up and down.
Big bear, big bear, turn around.
Big bear, big bear, sit back down.

Book: Hedgehugs Hide and Squeak

Hiding Game:
Look who is hiding in the leaves?
1,2,3 who could it be?
*For this I have popular book characters and I cover them up with a giant leaf.  The only part I have showing is their shoes, to give a clue to who they are.

Book: Tap the Magic Tree

Closing: We Wave Goodbye (Tune: Farmer in the Dell)
We wave goodbye like this, we wave goodbye like this.
We clap our hands for all our friends, we wave goodbye like this.
We wave really fast, we wave really slow.
We turn around and take a bow, and then its time to go!

Funfest storytime @ Kids Central

For those of you who aren't familiar with my area, we have a yearly celebration called Funfest.  This year the library was asked to do a storytime at a kids event and it was so much FUN!!  I got to be up on the stage that everyone performs on and do a condensed storytime.  I was a nervous wreck but loved and hope to do the same next year.

Book: Five Little Monkeys Reading in Bed

*Everyone really got into helping me make the sounds that go along with this book.  I don't think I've ever used this in storytime before, but I definitely will use it again!
