Snow Storytime

 January 10 and 12: Soup

Preschool:
Opening: If You Want to Hear a Story

Book: Little Penguin and the Mysterious Object
*While I adore the "Little Penguin" series, I think I would rather read the picture book series aloud next time so that the kids can see the pictures better.

Fingerplay:
Tune: The Bear Went Over the Mountain
My thumbs are starting to wiggle,
My thumbs are starting to wiggle,
My thumbs are starting to wiggle
And so are my hands!

Other verses:

Hands….arms

Arms….feet

Feet…body

Flannel: Snowman

For this I have a snowman up on my board, but he's missing his arms and hat! I have a variety of options that I will put up, for instance, I put bird wings up instead of sticks. Or a cowboy hat instead of the black hat. The kids adore telling me just how WRONG I am!

Book: So Much Snow

Flannel: Snowman Hat Colors

For this flannel I ask the kids to tell me what color hat my snowman is wearing.  Then I will change this out and we will do actions corresponding to each color hat I put up.

Action:

There’s something in the snow, now what can it be?
There’s something in the snow that I can’t really see.
Hear it’s funny sound…
*I like to have an app pulled up that will play the animal sounds and then my volunteer will pop up the puppet for the kids to see!

Book: The Mitten
*For this book I don't read it, but I tell it. I have some beautiful props to use, one regular size mitten then a huge mitten that I will "stuff" my animals into as I tell the story. At the end, I like to have small paper animals cut out that I will "rain" down on the kids when all the animals fall out of the mitten!

Closing: Goodbye Song

Craft:
*You pull on the yarn that is on the back of the craft and this pulls the snomwan to and fro!

Snow Birds

 Opening: Big Books

Book: How to Catch a Snowman

Flannel: Birdhouse Matching
*For this I have three different colored birdhouses and the matching birds to each one.  I will start out with the birds in the wrong colored house and ask the preschoolers tell me where each one belongs.

Book: Once Upon a Winter Day

Action: Snowman Shuffle
*There is an adorable board book called Snowman Shuffle.  Instead of reading it, I said the actions aloud and used my scarf to dance around.

Book: Bunny Slopes

January Sensory Games 2020

Pretty much all of our games this month were penguins!  What can I say, I sure do love that adorable animal!

1.) Penguin Bowling
I did not take a picture of our bowling set, but this is always the most popular game.  This time was no exception!

2.) Penguin Shapes
I like to incorporate shapes whenever possible and this was too cute to resist.  The best part you can download this for free and just print out whatever shapes you'd like to use.  I did edit this download by adding the shape to each igloo because not all of my preschoolers can recognize the words yet.

3.) Penguin and Fish Counting
I was a little worried about this one because it has been a while since I've done a number match like this.  I had my volunteer there in case the preschoolers needed help but they did fabulous!   The preschoolers had a little trouble with the numbers four and five but that just means I need to help them recognize them more.

4.) Snowman Pom-Pom Push
I love this game!  Normally I will do a larger version and use sponge balls but this time I changed it up a bit.  I wasn't near this game much but from what I could tell everyone enjoyed it.  All you need is a shoebox, pom-poms and paper!
