Hoppy Easter! (Preschool and Two's)

Preschool Storytime:

Opening: Big Books

Book: Egg by Henkes
*For this, I wanted to make eggs to go along with the book.  I had no idea I would get the reaction from the preschoolers that I did!  I don't know if it was the combination of excitement for the egghunt or what, but they screamed and hollered the whole time!  I've included a picture below of my eggs.  I velcroed each eggs to a ruler, so that it would stand up on my puppet stage.  That way I could pull apart my eggs, to show the bird hidden inside.   For the last egg, that has a crocodile hidden inside, I used a puppet.

E-Book: Hop Away Big Pink Easter Monster!
Hop Away, Big Pink Easter Monster! (Build A Monster Workshop) by [Eckbert, Louis]
*I've never done a full e-book before using my table in storytime, so I was very hesitant today to do this. I'm so glad I did! This book is like "Go away, big green monster!". The kids went crazy over it! The big pink Easter monster appears bit by bit, and then we stood up and hopped. As we hopped up and down, I would slide the next page over, and the monster disappeared and an Easter egg appeared! This is a wonderful purchase and I look forward to using the others by this author in storytime.

Fingerplay: If You Want to Hear a Story

Book: We’re Going on an Egg Hunt
*This is a wonderful book to read-aloud and it's great for the two's! Inside it has a lot of flaps, and I love to put up Easter eggs on my flannelboard as I go along. There are a lot of animals inside, so it's a great opportunity to incorporate puppets.

*This is a gorgeous pop-up book! The two's were very excited to go outside and hunt Easter eggs, so I don't think they enjoyed this as much as I had hoped they would.

Flannel: Seven Eggs
(I use words from book, but put flannel eggs up on board.  Then after I show animals in each egg, I pull out chocolate from behind last egg.  I give a piece of chocolate to each animal on the board and the last piece to myself.  Then I turn them loose for the egg hunt.)

Easter and Egg Hunt (Preschool)

Preschool Storytime:

Opening: Big Books

Book: There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Chick
*The kids really got into this book and loved helping me flap my wings like a chicken every time we read that line. A great book for this theme!

Fingerplay/Flannel: Hippity-Hop, Hippity-Hay
*I forgot to grab my flannel Easter bunnies for this great hopping fingerplay, so we used Easter eggs! It ended up working out wonderfully, and I think I'll do this from now on for Easter! To see the words for this wonderful fingerplay, check it out here.

Book: Everybunny Dance!

*The kids loved this book!  Everybody got up and started dancing without me asking them! A great movement book and it fits in wonderfully at Easter.

Fingerplay/Flannel: Easter Egg Guessing Game
*I used the clues inside this book and made a guessing game for the kids. I found a really cute flannel egg for a dollar, and took clipart of all the items I was describing. Then the kids could tell me what I was talking about and I would pull them out of my egg. The kids didn't enjoy this as much as I had hoped, but I still think it's a really fun guessing game.

Book: We’re Going on an Egg Hunt
*This is a wonderful new Easter book and the kids loved it! We used puppets during this and the best part of the book is when the wolf shows up at the end and surprises everyone!

Fingerplay/Flannel: Seven Eggs
*I ran out of time to do my seven eggs storytelling, but it's always a great one to use!

Today's craft is the Easter bunny in a carrot car!  We found the idea for this fabulous craft here!
