March New Books 2019
I just adore this enthusiastic little chick! She comes out of her eggs cheering! But nobody on the farm will help her. Or will they? I definitely will use this book for my dancing theme. Why? Because we all can get up right along with the cute little chick, cheer and dance together!
This is perfect for a silly or space storytime! The little girl in the story can't get her song right and she's keeps confusing the lamb with the song twinkle twinkle little star! Does she ever get it right? Maybe! This is perfect for our SRP theme this year!

August New Books (Part 2)
*I am in love with this book! My reasoning behind that statement? This book is shaped like a triangle, and when you open it up to see the animal, both pages fold out to make one giant animal! So unique! I can't wait to use this book in storytime, I truly think my kids will be blown away by this one.
*Another great installment in the "Little Rabbit" series. This time the adorable little rabbit has had an accident, as you can see on the precious cover. With the other books in this series, you get to help the rabbit by doing all kinds of interactive things as you turn each page of the board book. A great addition to any get well themed storytime!
*This book is so delightfully good! The precious little boy is trying to hunt down the source of the stinky smell inside the house. For some odd reason, it seems to follow him around. Wonder why? I'm sure you'll figure out the reason very quickly, but for young readers, it just might take them a while. I think this would be an adorable read-aloud, to see if the kids can find the smell as quickly as the adults!
*What do you get when you mix monsters and bedtime? This monstrously creepy book, that's what! The illustrations are just the right amount of spooky and cuteness combined to make your heart crumble! Baby Godzilla wearing diapers on the cover is just the best!
*Now it's time to turn up the tunes and do the monster boogie! Every year I usually have a monster mash storytime, and this book is perfect! With simple words and monster stomping illustrations, you'll be sure to boogie along with each page.
*What an adorable book! The music just makes this book really pop! I highly recommend purchasing this book to use for a dancing theme or picnic theme.
*This book is perfect for alphabet, bedtime or even silly storytime! Poor zebra just wants to jump into the story, but it's not time for him just yet! Will he ever get a chance? Read this adorable book to find out!
*This book is fire-breathing adorable! I just had a "Once Upon a Time" storytime, and of course, just received this book. Ugh! But I have to highly recommend this book, each page has a precious rhyme on it, which the illustrations alone should win you over! The little boy and dragon are taught to fight each other, but do they? Oh no! In the end, they learn that dragons and knight really do get along!
*This book is amazing! I love peek-a-boo books, and I think that this book would even appeal to older readers. This would be a great guessing book to use with a shape storytime.

Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons (Preschool and Two's SRP)

*I have been going to a preschool off-site this summer, and it's been so much fun! This week I only had the two's class, but they were very excited to have storytime! Below is a short plan of what I did.Opening: Big Books

*I read this book often, and I was afraid the preschoolers would tired of it. But thankfully they are still
loving this book! The preschool group wanted me to read the book again, which always makes you
feel good!

Fingerplay/Flannel: Five Ballet Dancers
Five ballet dancers
Prancing on their toes
They twirl and spin and jump
Then off the stage one goes.
4 ballet dancers…3 ballet dancers…2 ballet dancers…
One ballet dancer
Prancing on his/her toes
S/He twirls and spins and jumps
Then off the stage s/he goes.
No more dancers! The performance is over.
And what do we do at the end of a performance?
Book: 3 Little Firefighters
*For this book, I made three firefighter jackets, with removable buttons to go on them. The best
part of my flannel? One of the preschool groups asked me where the head and feet of the
firefighters were...LOL! Don't you love when that happens? You gotta roll with the punches! As
I read the book I would mismatch the buttons on the jacket, so that the preschoolers would get to
tell me what was wrong. They really got into this part and had a lot of fun!

*My co-worker found this wonderful song online, to go along with the book. Trust me, once you hear this tune, you won't be able to get it out of your head!

Book: Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons
*I have a favorite thing I love to do with this book, and that is throw out paper buttons onto the kids!
As each button pops off Pete the cat's shirt, I take a button off the shirt I have up on my flannelboard.
Next I have small circles cut out of paper, that match each color of Pete's buttons. The kids go crazy
when I have items "rain" down upon their heads, and today they went bezerk!
Our craft today was sent home with the preschoolers, but this is what it looked like.

W is for Wiggle Waggle (Preschool and Two's)
Preschool Storytime:
Opening: Big Books
Book: Down by the Cool of the Pool
*This is a great book to use, but I was a little worried it might be too long for the kids. But they did great! A lot of them caught on to all the repetitive actions early on and did all the animal movements right along with me. As usual, my animal puppets joined in too!

Fingerplay/Flannel: Animal Home Matching Game
*For this I printed out a bunch of different animals along with their matching home. I showed my flannelboard to the kids, but with all the animals in the wrong place. The kids told me where to place my animals, but of course it took a few tries before I got this correct, much to the kids delight.

Book: Elephants Cannot Dance
*I was so excited to use this book, and it certainly didn't disappoint! For this storytime I had on my purple tutu, to help with the story. My volunteer was piggie and I was elephant. We acted out the story as I showed the pictures to the kids. I also had all the kids stand up and help us dance! The best part was when the kids chimed in and told me "No!" You're not doing that right at all. Priceless!

*This is such a wonderful book to get everyone up and moving! At this point thought, some of the kids were a little tired and really just wanted to sit for once and listen. But most of them got right back up and jumped, hopped and marched right along with me!
*Normally I have way too much planned, but not today! For some reason, we got through everything down in my plan, but that's okay. At least I didn't have an overabundance of time, which has happened. I hate the feeling of struggling to find something to do when all the kids and parents are looking at you!
Our craft today was a wiggling snake! The kids were so adorable bringing their snakes to me, hissing all the way!

*I love playing the CD to this book as the kids come into storytime, so I thought why not use it today? It didn't work out as well. Simply because I played the music while showing the pictures inside the book to the two's and I think the two combined was confusing. Plus we were doing all the actions to the song, so that was a lot to comprehend at once for them.

*I actually ran out of things to do, which isn't normal for me! But we did have games today, so it worked out. One thing to do, next time I have games, is to set out the flannelboard to let two's play with. They adore the flannelboard! Click here to check out the games we did.
