X Marks the Spot! (Preschool and Two's)

Preschool Storytime:

Opening: Big Books

Book: Pirate’s Perfect Pet

*This is my favorite pirate book, and if you've read it you'll understand why!  The kids loved making all the animal sounds with me.  The best part?  When the parrot pooped on my head.  Because my volunteer threw a piece of white felt on top of my head so that I was literally pooped on!  The grown-ups got quite a chuckle out of that.

Fingerplay: Five Little Pirates Jumping on the Ship
Five little pirates jumping on the ship
One fell off and took a dip.
The captain yelled out on his sip,
No more pirates jumping on my ship!
-Continue singing until no more pirates, then:
No little pirates jumping on the ship,
The captain's all alone with a pouting lip.
The pirates climb aboard and drip, drip, drip.
Back to work, let's sail our ship!
*I was really excited to change up the words to the traditional rhyme, five little monkeys jumping on the bed. But the kids didn’t like this at all! I will know from now on to not do this.

Book:Pirates Love Underpants

Flannel: Make a Pirate
*For this, I made a pirate for my flannel, but without a hat and shoes. I asked the kids what he needed, and thankfully they told me shoes. So instead of putting on boots first, I put ice skates, and then rain boots. After putting on the correct shoes we moved onto the hat. The kids went crazy telling me what I had done wrong. Such a fun flannel!

Book: Pirate Treasure Hunt!
*I love this book because it reads just like "We're Going on a Bear Hunt". We used puppets during this to help keep the kids interest. I had an inflatable treasure chest full of gold coins, propped up on a table. At the end of the book I threw my pretend gold coins on the kids. (The gold coins were actually round yellow circles cut out of paper.)

Extra Books:

Two’s Storytime:

*This never happens, but I actually ran out of things to do today!  Shocking, right?  I always overplan, but today I had too little.  But I just ended a bit early, because the two's were getting a tad restless.

Opening: Big Books

Fingerplay: If You Want to Hear a Story

Book: I Spy Under the Sea

Fingerplay: Five Little Pirates Jumping on the Ship
*Instead of jumping like monkeys today we jumped like pirates today!

Fingerplay/Flannel: Ocean Action Cards

Book: Pirate Treasure Hunt
*I love this book because it reads just like "We're Going on a Bear Hunt". We used puppets during this to help keep the kids interest. I had an inflatable treasure chest full of gold coins, propped up on a table. At the end of the book I threw my pretend gold coins on the kids. (The gold coins were actually round yellow circles cut out of paper.)

Fingerplay: Make a Pirate
*I was excited to do this flannel with the two's today, but it didn't go over very well with them. Maybe it was too much for them? Could be!
