Go Fish! (Preschool and Two's)

Preschool Storytime:

Opening: Big Books

Book: Row, Row, Row Your Boat (Special Guest doing ASL)
*This book is a wonderful read-aloud and I love using puppets to go along with it!

Fingerplay/Flannel: Five Little Pirates Jumping on the Bed

Book: Three Little Fish and the Big Bad Shark

Fingerplay/Flannel: Make a Pirate
*This is a silly flannel that the preschoolers love! I start out with my pirate, who needs boots and a hat. I always put up some silly items first, like a cowboy hat or a Dr. Seuss hat before putting up the correct pirate hat.

Book: Swallow the Leader
*I was so excited to read this book, but for whatever reason the preschoolers didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped they would.  Its an adorable book, and at the end I had little paper fish cut out of construction paper that I threw out onto the kids.  Why?  Because the big fish that eats all the little fish goes BURP!  Then all the little fish come flying out!  That's when I throw out all the little paper fish that I had cut out.

Action: Fishing Skit
*I love to go fishing with the preschoolers. I have my volunteer behind the puppet stage, and I tell the preschoolers that I am going to catch a "big fish". While my back is turned, my volunteer will pop up and show the fish puppet to the preschoolers, which will make them go crazy! I will catch many unusual items until I finally catch a fish.

*For the craft, we took elements of ideas we found online and made our own.  I love the curly waves!

SRP 2019 Display Case

Its that time of year!  I'm a smidge behind in posting and decoration...LOL!  Below are pics of the display case in our front lobby that I made and put up.  I apologize, the glare from the front window is bad in some of the pics.  I can't take credit for any of the cute drawings, I found them all online.  All I did was draw them out and put them together!

Colors of My World! (Two's Storytime)

Time for Two’s Storytime:

Opening: Big Books

Fingerplay: If You Want to Hear a Story

Book: Mix It Up!
*Today the city schools let out half a day, so I don't know if it was because of this but we had older siblings at storytime. I did a last minute switch and changed out the first book I was reading with this one, but they all loved this book!  I didn’t read all of it, since this is the two's, but everyone really enjoyed doing all of the actions with me.

Fingerplay/Flannel: Hiding Game

I have a crayon, I’ll give it to you.
Here is my crayon, my crayon of blue.
I have a crayon, a lovely little fellow.
Here is my crayon, my crayon of yellow.
I have a crayon, it’s here on my head.
Here is my crayon, my crayon of red.
I have a crayon, we can draw a circle.
Here is my crayon, my crayon of purple.
I have a crayon, what do I see?
Here is my crayon, an orange one for me.
I have a crayon, the best ever seen.
Here is my crayon, my crayon of green

E-Book: Mouse in a People House
*I don't usually do e-books with the two's, but this one was way too cute not to use. As soon as I started reading, a little boy spoke up and said that this wasn’t a real book! All I could do was laugh and go on with reading it. This taught me that I might just stick with regular books for the two's!

Our craft today was an adorable turtle!

We Love Mom! (Preschool and Two's)

Preschool Storytime:

Opening: Big Books

Book: Pouch!
*This is my favorite book to use, but sometimes the preschoolers don't enjoy it as much as I hope they would. Thankfully, they loved it! We jumped and counted every time baby kangaroo leaped out of mama's pouch.

Fingerplay/Flannel: Little Snake, Little Snake

Book: Where’s My Mommy?
*I've never read this book before, and the preschoolers enjoyed it. I honestly think they liked the puppets popping up a little more than the book!

Action: Five Kisses to Give Away (Place kisses on animals)

Fingerplay/Flannel: “A Flower for You”
(Make flower, and when you sneeze, throw petals on kids)
Out in the garden the flowers grew,
Each with a different color and hue.
I picked the {red} one just for you.
Then took a sniff and went “Ah-choo!”
And away the petals of the flower flew
*I don't know where I found this, so if it's your idea, please let me know! When I do this, I have some paper petals cut out ahead of time. When I say "Ah-choo" I will throw out my petals so that they will fall down onto the preschoolers. I think I could have done this continuously, they enjoyed it so much!

Our craft today was a frog! I love doing crafts that are lift-the-flap, and this one is adorable!

Counting in the Garden (Preschool and Two's)

Preschool Storytime

Music:
*This is a really cute song about seeds in your garden.

Opening: Big Books

Book:  Muncha! Muncha! Muncha!
*I have never read this book in storytime, and it's such a shame! Everyone was spellbound while I read, even the adults! I had my row of veggies propped up behind me on my puppetstage. Why? Because the rabbit popped up and took them, just like the book! I loved that the preschoolers caught on and helped me do the actions of the rabbits. A few preschoolers even told me what all the rabbits had to jump and climb over to get to the garden. This book is definitely one to use again!

Fingerplay: Little Flower, Little Flower
Little flower, little flower twist around.
Little flower, little flower touch the ground.
Little flower, little flower spread your petals wide.
Little flower, little flower now you hide.
Little flower, little flower stretch towards the sun.
Little flower, little flower in the wind have fun!
Little flower, little flower time for one jump up and down.
Little flower, little flower sit back down!

Fingerplay/Flannel: Vegetable Guessing Game
*This is a wonderful guessing game to use, and the preschoolers love it!

E-Book: Who’s Eating the Garden
*I am old-fashioned, I admit it. But I have just now subscribed to an unlimited Kindle subscription, and its so cool! This e-book is beautiful, and I had hoped the preschoolers would have enjoyed it more than they did. This is only my second e-book I've used with them, so that could have played a big part in it.

Book: Guess What? Flowers
*I adore all the books by this author, and this one doesn't disappoint! Every page opens up to reveal an animal in place of the flower. The preschoolers love when I do books like this with them, its so much fun!

Our craft today was a torn paper flower, and I didn't take a picture, I apologize. You can click below to see where I found the idea and a picture.

Book: 10 Hungry Rabbits
10 Hungry Rabbits: Counting & Color Concepts by [Lobel, Anita]
*At the last minute I had to find another garden book, so I decided to go with this one. I put up ten rabbits on the flannelboard, then my volunteer placed flannel food with each rabbit as I read. The two's did pretty good with this, but they were a rambunctious group today, so it was a bit lengthy for them.

Fingerplay/Flannel: Hippity-Hop, Hippity-Hay

Five little bunnies went out to play.
