Counting in the Garden (Preschool and Two's)

Preschool Storytime

Music:
*This is a really cute song about seeds in your garden.

Opening: Big Books

Book:  Muncha! Muncha! Muncha!
*I have never read this book in storytime, and it's such a shame! Everyone was spellbound while I read, even the adults! I had my row of veggies propped up behind me on my puppetstage. Why? Because the rabbit popped up and took them, just like the book! I loved that the preschoolers caught on and helped me do the actions of the rabbits. A few preschoolers even told me what all the rabbits had to jump and climb over to get to the garden. This book is definitely one to use again!

Fingerplay: Little Flower, Little Flower
Little flower, little flower twist around.
Little flower, little flower touch the ground.
Little flower, little flower spread your petals wide.
Little flower, little flower now you hide.
Little flower, little flower stretch towards the sun.
Little flower, little flower in the wind have fun!
Little flower, little flower time for one jump up and down.
Little flower, little flower sit back down!

Fingerplay/Flannel: Vegetable Guessing Game
*This is a wonderful guessing game to use, and the preschoolers love it!

E-Book: Who’s Eating the Garden
*I am old-fashioned, I admit it. But I have just now subscribed to an unlimited Kindle subscription, and its so cool! This e-book is beautiful, and I had hoped the preschoolers would have enjoyed it more than they did. This is only my second e-book I've used with them, so that could have played a big part in it.

Book: Guess What? Flowers
*I adore all the books by this author, and this one doesn't disappoint! Every page opens up to reveal an animal in place of the flower. The preschoolers love when I do books like this with them, its so much fun!

Our craft today was a torn paper flower, and I didn't take a picture, I apologize. You can click below to see where I found the idea and a picture.

Book: 10 Hungry Rabbits
10 Hungry Rabbits: Counting & Color Concepts by [Lobel, Anita]
*At the last minute I had to find another garden book, so I decided to go with this one. I put up ten rabbits on the flannelboard, then my volunteer placed flannel food with each rabbit as I read. The two's did pretty good with this, but they were a rambunctious group today, so it was a bit lengthy for them.

Fingerplay/Flannel: Hippity-Hop, Hippity-Hay
Hippity-hop, hippity-hay
Five little bunnies went out to play.
