Bubbles & Bath

Opening: If You Want to Hear a Story

Book: Get Out of My Bath!

Fingerplay:

5 rubber ducks came out to play,

Battling the waves in the tub today.

Along came the splash that sent one to shore,

And then he couldn’t play anymore.

Continue until zero left.

Book: Dini Dinosaur

*I am including a flannel that I made for this story. Each part of Dini's clothes will come off as you read the story aloud.

Fingerplay:

The ducks in the pond go quack, quack, quack.

Quack, quack, quack.  Quack, quack, quack.

The ducks in the pond go quack, quack, quack.

All through the day!

Turtles…snap, snap, snap!

Put your finger on your knee, on your knee.

Then turn yourself around,

Stamp your feet upon the ground,

And put your finger on your knee.

Bunny Slopes

Opening: If You Want to Hear a Story

Book: Bunny Slopes

Fingerplay: Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed

Flannel: Snowman
*For this activity, I have a snowman up on my flannelboard, but he is missing arms and a hat.  So, after I ask the kids what my snowman needs, then I add something silly to my snowman to get a reaction out of the kids.

Book: Flubby Does Not Like the Snow
*I was so excited to read this book and I even had a cat puppet that I used.  The kids weren't very interested in this book at all, but I still love the book!

Fingerplay: Snowman Hat Colors
*I don't have the words for this, but I would change out the hat of my snowman.  Then I would ask what color it was and we would do actions to go along with it.  For instance: Snowman, snowman, hat so yellow.  Jiggle around like a happy fellow!

Action:
There’s something in the snow, now what can it be?
There’s something in the snow that I can’t really see.
Hear it’s funny sound…
*In the past, I've had different animal sounds pulled up on my phone, to play through my bluetooth speaker. This really adds excitement and I always use puppets!

Book: The Mitten
*My favorite thing to do is have small clipart of each animal in the book. When all of the animals go flying out of the mitten, then I throw out all the clipart onto the kids. They go bonkers!

Scarf Dancing: London Bridge

Little snowflake spinning around, spinning around,

spinning around.

Little snowflake spinning around,

land on my….head!

Soup's On! and Bears (January 2 and 4 Storytime)

Preschool Storytime:

Opening Song:
If You Want to Hear a Story, Clap Your Hands

Book: Runaway Pea

*I absolutely love this book, but I feel like it was a bit much for my preschool crowd. The parents seemed to enjoy it a bit more than the kids, but I do recommend it.

Fingerplay: (tune of The Farmer in the Dell)

The soup is boiling up (repeat)

Stir it slow, around we go (stir).  The soup is boiling up.

*Fast, Slow, High, Low

Fingerplay:

This is the way we roll our hands, roll our hands, roll our hands.

This is the way we roll our hands, early in the morning.

What else can we do? Let's jump!

Book: There’s a Giraffe In My Soup

*I love to make this more interactive, so I have this elaborate soup pot. My volunteer (aka my Mom) will bring me the different animals inside my soup pot. The kids and parents both went crazy over this, and I just love doing surprises like this in storytime.

Action:

Tune: The Bear Went Over the Mountain
My thumbs are starting to wiggle, (repeat 3x)
And so are my hands!
Other verses:
Hands….arms
Arms….feet
Feet…body

Book: Is That Wise, Pig?

*This is another really cute book and everyone thoroughly enjoyed all the silly things happening!

Scarf Dancing:

Five little bears, sleeping on the floor.  One ran away and now there are four!

(Ball up scarf and throw when you say ran each time.)

Four little bears,, cute as can be.  One ran away and now there are three!

Three little bears, wondering what to do.  One ran away and now there are two!

Two little bears, laying in the sun.  One ran away and now there is one!

One little bear cat got up to stretch and yawn.   I looked away and now he’s gone!

Action: Put vegetables in pot

Closing Song

Our craft today was a bowl of alphabet soup and a grilled cheese sandwich.

Two’s Storytime:

Book:  Where Do You Sleep?

*This book is absolutely beautiful! My favorite part is there are very sturdy tabs to pull out on each page, to allow you to see the animals that are sleeping. I adore this author and love every books they've done!
