Preschool Storytime:

Opening: If You Want to Hear a Story

Book: A Bear Sat on my Porch Today

Fingerplay/Flannel: Five Little Bears Jumping on the Bed

Book: Share, Big Bear, Share!

Action: Animal Cards

Fingerplay: Tune: The Bear Went Over the Mountain

My thumbs are starting to wiggle (repeat 3x)

And so are my hands!

Other verses: Hands….arms, Arms….feet, Feet…body

Book: A Good Day for a Hat

*For this book, I like to make it more interactive. So, all throughout the book different things keep happening causing Mr. bear to change his hat. For instance, there are rabbits jumping all around so he puts on a magician's hat. I have little paper cutouts of rabbits and after I read that page I have the paper rabbits "rain" down up on the kids. I do this all throughout this book and the kids adore this!

Scarf Dancing:

Five little bears, sleeping on the floor.

One ran away and now there are four!

(Ball up scarf and throw when you say ran each time.)

Four little bears,, cute as can be.

One ran away and now there are three!

Three little bears, wondering what to do.

One ran away and now there are two!

Two little bears, laying in the sun.

One ran away and now there is one!

One little bear cat got up to stretch and yawn.

I looked away and now he’s gone! (Put scarf behind your back.)

*If you're not aware of Noveleffect, I highly recommend it! There is a multitude of stories that you can use with this app. Marvelous sound effects will happen as you read aloud your book and the kids are just mesmerized by it!

Snow Storytime

 January 10 and 12: Soup

Preschool:
Opening: If You Want to Hear a Story

Book: Little Penguin and the Mysterious Object
*While I adore the "Little Penguin" series, I think I would rather read the picture book series aloud next time so that the kids can see the pictures better.

Fingerplay:
Tune: The Bear Went Over the Mountain
My thumbs are starting to wiggle,
My thumbs are starting to wiggle,
My thumbs are starting to wiggle
And so are my hands!

Other verses:

Hands….arms

Arms….feet

Feet…body

Flannel: Snowman

For this I have a snowman up on my board, but he's missing his arms and hat! I have a variety of options that I will put up, for instance, I put bird wings up instead of sticks. Or a cowboy hat instead of the black hat. The kids adore telling me just how WRONG I am!

Book: So Much Snow

Flannel: Snowman Hat Colors

For this flannel I ask the kids to tell me what color hat my snowman is wearing.  Then I will change this out and we will do actions corresponding to each color hat I put up.

Action:

There’s something in the snow, now what can it be?
There’s something in the snow that I can’t really see.
Hear it’s funny sound…
*I like to have an app pulled up that will play the animal sounds and then my volunteer will pop up the puppet for the kids to see!

Book: The Mitten
*For this book I don't read it, but I tell it. I have some beautiful props to use, one regular size mitten then a huge mitten that I will "stuff" my animals into as I tell the story. At the end, I like to have small paper animals cut out that I will "rain" down on the kids when all the animals fall out of the mitten!

Closing: Goodbye Song

Craft:
*You pull on the yarn that is on the back of the craft and this pulls the snomwan to and fro!

Soup Storytime

January 10 and 12: Soup

Preschool:

Opening: If You Want to Hear a Story

Book: Duck Soup
*For this book, I have made pieces of the soup out of paper.  Because the animals think that Max the duck has fallen in the soup pot and find "parts" of him.  So I like to put the items I've made in a soup bowl and pull them out as I read the book.  Of course, I have to ask the kids and parents to help me go "EEEKKK"!

Fingerplay: The Soup is Boiling Up
(tune of The Farmer in the Dell)
The soup is boiling up
The soup is boiling up
Stir it slow, around we go (stir)
The soup is boiling up

*The soup is boiling fast

The soup is boiling slow

The soup is boiling high

The soup is boiling low

Action: Animal Action Movement Cards

Book: Pete the Cat and the Missing Cupcakes

*For this I like to have cupcakes propped up on my flannelboard. As I'm reading, my volunteer will pull down the cupcakes so the kids can tell me they have gone missing!

Fingerplay: Food Hiding Game

*I change this one up often as I use it, but this time I had different colored mice on the flannelboard.  I then asked the kids to help me find the pizza behind one of my mice.

Dini the Dinosaur

I absolutely love the book "Dini the Dinosaur", and I decided to make a flannel to go along with it.  All of the clothes are removeable so as you read the book, you can take them off and make the flannel interactive.

Here is the book this is based on!

Summer Reading 2022

 Hello!

I have been a bad cookie, not posted on here since April!  I will get back to posting soon, I promise.  Here are some of the decorations in my library!

My library was very fortunate to receive donations from a local school who made the octopus and the shark below!

For every 100 minutes the kids log, they get to pick out a sea creature and stick it up anywhere in the Youth Services Department!  I wish we had done this before, the kids adore it!

This is probably my favorite decoration to make just because its 3-D. I don't know why I didn't think of this before, but I love it!

One of my favorite things, each scale on the fish equals 250 minutes.  This is an older picture, because we are over 50,000 minutes!!!

Front display case and these jellyfish are amazing!  Extremely affordable on amazon and I love them!  I was very fortunate to be able to use the decorations donated from a local school for the display case!

 Ahoy mateys!  Until next time!

Update

Hello!  Life has been a little crazy, I have had surgery and am recovering wonderfully!

I haven't updated this blog at all this year, and my goal is to try and get it going again this month.  Hang in there with me, I'll get back to some kind of normal soon!
