Rain Storytime

This week our letter is "U" for umbrellas.

Book: Stuck in the Mud

Book: Boom! Boom! Boom!

*I love this book because you can make it interactive.  Every time I read "Flash! Crash!" we clap our hands.  When I read "Boom! Boom! Boom!" we stomp our feet.  The kids love it!

Book: The Big Storm

Book: Mud Puddle

*For this story, my volunteer is the "mud puddle".  I take a small piece o brown fabric or a plastic tablecloth.  When the mud puddle jumps on the little girl in the story my volunteer throws the fabric on my head.  The kids think this is hilarious and makes this book more interactive.

Fingerplays:

Five spiders up the spout,

Five spiders up the spout,

It rained and rained and washed one out,

Four spiders up the spout.

Continue until zero.

We’re stomping in the rain,
Stomping in the rain,
We can’t go yet, we must get wet,
We’re stomping in the rain.
Continue:
Spinning
Jumping
* I like to cut out paper raindrops to "rain" down on the kids when we read the line "we must get wet". I've also gotten a mist spray bottle and lightly sprayed water in the air.

Four umbrellas, pretty as can be.
One went outside and then there were three.
Three umbrellas with nothing to do,
One went outside and then there were two.
Two umbrellas not having much fun,
One went outside and then there was one.
One umbrella alone in the hall,
One went outside and that was all.
* I love to use puppets for this one. I put up my umbrellas on the flannelboard and as I read each line I will give the umbrella to my puppets. My volunteer is behind the flannelboard and will pop up the puppets for everyone to see.
